Following Mrs Thomas' visit last year, LMS partner school, Datong Primary school in Changsha, kindly reached out to us to enquire how we were coping in the lockdown and asked if there was anything they can do to help - particularly in relation to protective gear.
They then continued with an incredible gesture and offered to prepare 500 masks to be sent to the school. Once parents at Datong Primary heard of this donation, they also wanted to help and offered to send us a further 6,000 masks!
As you can imagine we are absolutely overwhelmed with their generosity. The following day staff, children and parents of Datong went into school and started to organise the transfer of the masks. They sent Mrs Thomas some lovely photos and videos of them packing up the boxes with kind messages such as: 'We will get through together', 'Friendship for ever' and 'If you have friends who know your hearts, distance cannot keep you apart'.
As a result, we now have 6500 masks on the way to the UK, arriving in Lincoln at the end of April. We are also in touch with the NHS Hero Support organisation (one of the organisers is Preparatory LSA, Mrs Farrell’s daughter), who are providing such incredible support. The organisations are fund raising and sourcing PPE equipment for the NHS and social care and will be directing us in ensuring the masks get to the right places locally. NHS Hero Support have raised £71 000 so far and sourced over 50,000 PPE essentials already!
The Hunan government have also since, donated a further 50,000 face masks to Lincolnshire due to connections made by Business Lincolnshire, who initially connected Lincoln Minster School with Datong Primary school last year.
Preparatory Head, Mrs Thomas recently appeared on BBC Radio Lincolnshire to speak about the generosity and special partnership with Datong Primary school and their act of kindness. Staff within the school were appreciative for the news and positive feedback it received. Datong Primary Headmaster's PA contacted to say, 'We are really touched by your words in the recording, I can see kindness integrity and honesty , the noble quality in you. We are so lucky to meet you. You are always our friend. we hope we can work hard together and help the children of Britain and China can face to the most difficult time and get through together, then become braver and wiser.'
We would sincerely like to thank Datong Primary for their inspiring act of kindness and support during this challenging time and we proud to be a partner school. We are sure you will agree that this is true friendship, no matter how many miles between us.
Thank you Datong Primary!
