The Pre-Preparatory school held its very own Race for Life event during this afternoons PE lesson in a show of support for Cancer Research UK.
A very memorable PE lesson was held today which saw pupils from the Pre-Preparatory school join the fight against cancer in support of Reception teacher Miss Muir, who many of you are aware is undergoing treatment, and many others who are affected by the disease. The event was held across two sites, with Years 1 & 2 running 2k over at The Lindum Sports Club and Reception children completing 5 laps of the schools AstroTurf.
Deputy Head of Pre-Prep Mrs Whitworth took part in the race and said:
"Today was an incredible day where the children proved how determined and resilient they are. With a positive mind-set, they embraced the 'Race For Life' to raise money for Cancer Research UK, thinking about Miss Muir whilst they completed the course. The Reception children ran around the perimeter of the Astro turf for 15 minutes, whilst the Year 1 and 2 children did at least three circuits of the Lindum Sports field.
Each race began with a lovely talk from Miss Skelton about the importance of the event and children held letters that spelt out 'We race for Miss Muir'. Upon completion, the children almost sprinted to the finish line, receiving a well earned medal. A big thank you to all of the staff who helped with this magnificent race, Miss Skelton for organising the event and members of FOLMS who surprised the children at the Lindum with a hot chocolate and biscuit after the race. We can't wait to find out how much we have raised."
Our youngsters are the generation that could see ground-breaking treatments and cures for cancer in their lifetime. They're the rising stars who could be the researchers and lifesavers of tomorrow. By taking part in Race for Life and uniting together against cancer, they'll be doing something really special.
Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for their research, so the more of us who join the fight against cancer, the more money we can raise to beat cancer for good!
As our school focus this term is 'positivity' the children will wear their individually designed 'positive pants' over the top of their PE kit for the event. These were made by the children earlier in the term and there were some wonderfully decorated pants on show today!
Thank you to everyone who got involved in the event, your support is greatly appreciated by all.
