Lincoln Minster School parent hosting 1100 mile Charity Car Rally

Preparatory parent Steve Gilbert is hosting a Charity Car Rally this June in aid of the four House charities supported by the school. From the 12th to the 16th of June, Mr Gilbert is organising a Charity Car Rally from Lincoln to Biarritz, France, in aid of the local charities supported by the four Lincoln Minster School Houses; Learoyd - Bransby Horses, Gibson - Ethan Maul Cancer Unit, Jackson - Linkage and Nettleton - Let Them Eat Cake.

Leaving early on the morning of Wednesday 12th, the group will catch the lunchtime ferry from Dover to Calais before driving 1100 miles through Rouen, Nantes and Bordeux to the final destination of Biarritz. Motorways will be avoided where ever possible, with drivers enjoying a leisurely drive through France.

The aim of the trip will be for those taking part to spend as little as possible on the car being driven, ideally £500 or less - although all cars are welcome more fun will be had in a banger!

Participants are encouraged to make the most of their investment, decorating their cars to make them look as funny as possible, the crazier the car looks the more fun to be had! Fancy dress is also welcome! Whatever car chosen it must be safe, fully road legal and insured for the countries that will be traveled through.

Efforts will be rewarded for the craziest car – prizes to be awarded at the end of the trip!

Steve would like to invite YOU to get involved:

There will be an entry cost of £150.00, this will cover the outgoing ferry crossing for your car and up to five passengers, all remaining money will be donated to the four LMS House Charities.
If you wish, you can also raise sponsorship for yourselves in aid of any charity that you would personally like to support.

Twice daily meets arranged every day, convenient hotels will be suggested for you to book direct.

Highlights of the trip include:
• Visit to Le Mans motor museum
• Over the bridge for lunch on the Ile de Re
• The old Pau racing circuit
• A drive through the Pyrenees (easier route available if you or your car is struggling)
• Wheels and Waves Motorbike Festival
• Twice daily meets (chat about how awful your car is!)
• Farewell last night fun in beautiful Biarritz

On the Sunday:-
Drive back home?
Sell or scrap your car and fly back? (Ryanair fly from Biarritz to Stansted)
Sail from Santander back to Portsmouth, with or without your car!
Stay a while? You might need a break after sitting in a banger for 4 days!
Details of local scrapyards and car dealers will be available.

If Biarritz bound is of interest to you, or anyone you know, please contact Steve Gilbert, any questions about this trip are welcome.
