Scottish Swimming Success for Chloe

By Parent Report 16 December 2019 Swimming

Over the weekend of 14 and 15 December, Chloe (Year 10) swam in the Scottish National Short Course Championships held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh. This competition is an Open meet with no age group awards - swimmers compete by virtue of attaining specified qualification times with a single qualification time per event for women of all ages. Chloe (14) was thus swimming against competitors of all ages including Hannah Miley who has competed at three Olympic Games and is a former World and European champion! Other international swimmers such as Ross Murdoch who has won gold at Commonwealth, World and European competitions was also swimming!

This was Chloe's first national level competition. As well as competitors from all around the United Kingdom, there were swimmers from Belgium and the United Arab Emirates. Chloe had qualified for 7 events - 400m Individual Medley (IM), 200m IM, 100m IM, 200m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 400m freestyle, and 200m butterfly.

Highlight of the weekend was a 4 second personal best in 200m butterfly ranking her 51st out of 75 competitors. Chloe was also ranked 46th of 67 in 200 IM (Hannah M was 1st) and 46th of 60 in 400 freestyle (Hannah M
was 2nd).

Chloe's next major swimming competition is the Lincolnshire County Championships held over three weekends at the end of January/beginning of February. She will be competing in all 18 events for her age group!
