Year 13 Drama student Ted ran a Lighting Design Workshop in our Drama Studio for Year 9 pupils, during their lesson on Wednesday. Many of them had seen Ted playing Cyrano de Bergerac in the Senior Play, but had not realised he was also responsible for designing the Lighting for the production! Ted took the group through the basics of lighting, including the types of lanterns and their function, and using the programmable lighting desk. Some of the pupils then got hands-on experience, including testing out ideas with the Theatre In A Box, acquired to help teach design at GCSE and A level.
They were able to create a design for the rest of the group, who acted out the iconic moment when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in 1955; this is part of the current Topic on Taking a Stand.
Thank you, Ted, for a fascinating insight into the world of Technical Theatre!
